Wacam Dialogues With AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine On Community Concerns
Wacam and the Centre for Public Interest Law (CEPIL) with the mandate from a group of affected community people in Mankessim Ajopa and Teberebie in the Tarkwa Municipality are engaging AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem on issues of community resettlement and compensation. The affected people aggrieved by the compensation and resettlement process and packages offered for their farmlands and houses petitioned and mandated Wacam and CEPIL to support them in engaging the company to access fair and adequate compensation. The team has met with the Sustainability Department of AngloGold Ashanti(Iduapriem mine) to deliberate on these issues. Negotiations are ongoing.
Wacam has had engagements with AngloGold on human rights violation perpetrated by AngloGold which led to the company paying compensation to 35 community people in Teberebie and another 21 people in Obuasi. Community people in Obuasi also got portable water, access roads as a result of the engagements with AngloGold.
