Wacam,CEIA and CEPIL Develop Policy Brief on Mining

The policy brief developed by Wacam, Centre for Public Interest Law and the Centre for Environmental Impact Assessment highlights the weaknesses of mining sector policies and how these policies failed to address pertinent issues in the sector such as making adequate protection for affected communities and to provide for women participation in the sector, and propose recommendations for adoption or review of the mining sector policies by the Government of Ghana. The Policies examined include Ghana’s Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, (Act 703), National Mining Policy, and other regulations. The brief makes recommendations to these weaknesses. The organisations have engaged the Minerals Commission, the regulator on the issues raised in the briefs.

The brief was developed with support from OSIWA and Ford Foundation.
