Wacam has donated items a number of items for the prevention of Coronavirus to mining communities.

Mrs Hannah Owusu-Koranteng, the Associate Executive Director of Wacam asked the members of the Wacam VSLA groups to lead the crusade in educating the communities affected by mining on the mode of spread of Coronavirus and ensure that the community people take precautions that would prevent the spread of the disease.

“You are to lead in the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus disease because you are a well-organised group and you have a responsibility to make impact in this critical period of our nation. The best way to protect yourselves is to protect the community”, she told the Wacam VSLA members of Ayensukrom near Bogoso when presenting the items to the community.

Ms Joana Manu, the Wacam Zonal Officer for Prestea-Dumasi Zone thanked Wacam for continuously educating the community members on their economic, social and health rights.

“We shall educate our members to observe the precautions of social distancing, wearing of nose masks and regular handwashing with soap,” she said.

Dr Kojo Owusu-Koranteng educated the group at Ayensukrom on the mode of transmission of the virus and stressed the importance of wearing nose masks and not to use the inconvenience of wearing the nose masks as an excuse for not wearing nose masks. He advised the community people against the erroneous thinking that the disease is not real.

Coronavirus is a disease that spreads very fast and we all have to take the precautions serious. This is the time to understand that we need each other to survive so as you observe the precautions, ensure that your friends and family members observe the precautions too,” he told the group.

Some of the communities that received the items included, Ayensukrom, Teberebie. Nkwarteng, Donkro Nkwanta and Kenyase among others.
